It’s Friday, which means we introduce another Fun Fact about the Foundation!
This week we are sharing about the Passavant Hospital Foundation Injury Prevention Program!
In 2004, two UPMC Passavant Emergency Department nurses — Donna Galbraith, BSN, RN, CEN and Jeanmarie Daugherty, RN, CEN — started an Injury PreventionProgram. When they retired earlier this year, they wanted to continue the program so they began volunteering their time to take their interactive programs to schools, senior centers and other community venues, teaching safe driving and alcohol awareness for teens, fall risks for the elderly, bike and helmet safety for elementary-school children, and child passenger safety and car seat checks for parents. The Foundation has provided funding for the past eight years. A portion
of the money is used to purchase bike helmets and car seats for distribution where there is a need. “Our goal was, and
the receiving end, caring for people in the ER after injuries have already happened,” Donna said. They have reached nearly 100,000 people through these programs.
